Carpentry For KidsCarpentry For Kids is a new educational program designed to teach boys and girls--kindergarten through sixth grade--basic woodworking skills. This program puts basic hand tools in the hands of kids who want to participate in a hands-on, fun way to learn basic carpentry. The tool exercises and projects children will build are designed to teach children valuable carpentry skills such as, measuring, sawing, drilling, fastening, assembly, sanding and painting. Along with practical lessons, children will learn mathematics by using fractions and problem solving. Craftsmanship, safety, fine motor skills, patience and respect for tools will also be emphasized. Children will learn the names and proper use of all the tools they use in class. Some of the tools introduced will be: hammer and nails, cross cut saw, coping saw, ruler, square and many more. Kids have fun building wood projects such as a toolbox, birdhouse, pincle box and more. Our goal is to help kids build confidence, self esteem and feel a sense of accomplishment by creating something with their own hands. As the children increase their level of skill the range of projects the children can choose from also increases. We hope our students will enjoy this wonderful learning experience and continue to expand their knowledge of wood for years to come. |
